TMG Scale “pending” TMG has yet to weigh in on this one! — Joy Lynn
Starring Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Paul Rudd , Jack Nicholson
Lisa (Reese Witherspoon) is a professional softball player who looses her spot on the USA softball team because she is too old and then finds herself in an emotional crisis trying to figure out what to do with her life. The plot is based on a love triangle between Lisa and two very different guys; a professional baseball player and womanizer named Mattie (Owen Wilson) and a top executive named George Madison (Paul Rudd) who works for a firm controlled by his father Charles (Jack Nicholson). Lisa and George are experiencing the worst crises of their lives when they meet. George is a very sweet and nice man who is facing indictment for something his father did. Owen, on the other hand, is a fun loving multi-millionaire who is clueless to women’s feelings that Lisa moves in with.
Reese Witherspoon is well casted in this film. She has that cute bubbly outgoing personality and her classic facial expressions and mannerisms are consistent with many of her previous comedy roles. This movie is heavy on the stars and every one of them played their respective roles of which I have seen before. I felt like at times I was watching a combination of Legally Blonde (2001 with Witherspoon), As Good as It Gets (1997 with Nicholson), Wedding Crashers (2005 with Wilson) and I Love You, Man (Rudd) all in one movie. Not to say any one of the actors performed poorly. I am a fan of all of them. It is just that I found nothing new and exciting in their performances. Annie (Kathryn Hahn) who plays the pregnant secretary managed to provide the needed drama that kept the movie alive.
This is a light-hearted romcom chick flick . . . and that’s all I know.
